Marriage & Family Therapy · Federal Way, WA

Some days the disconnect is loud. Some days it's just quiet distance.

Maybe it's the same argument on repeat, or a heaviness you carry alone. Maybe you're not even sure what's wrong — only that things don't feel like they used to. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to sort it out by yourself.

How I Work

Grounded in research, guided by your story

I bring a systems perspective to every session — looking at the patterns underneath a conflict or a feeling, not just the surface moment. Using Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I help couples and individuals understand what's really happening beneath the surface, and build tools that hold up outside the therapy room.

Therapy with me is warm and direct: a space where you're never judged, and never left wondering what to do with what we talked about.

Meet Jennifer Dahl, LMFTA (pending)

Hi, I'm glad you're here.

I became a therapist because I believe relationships — with a partner, a family, or yourself — are where the deepest hurt happens, and where the deepest healing can too. My work centers on curiosity over judgment: understanding why a pattern exists before trying to change it.

My goal is for you to feel heard, understood, and empowered. Healing isn't about becoming someone new — it's about reconnecting with the strength and clarity that's already in you, and building the tools to carry it forward long after our work together ends.

What it's like to work with me

  • Direct and warm — I'll be honest with you, gently.
  • Collaborative — we build the plan together, session by session.
  • Practical — you'll leave with something you can actually use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still deciding? Here's what people usually ask

How do I know if I need couples or individual therapy? +

Many people aren't sure at first, and that's okay — we can talk it through in a free consultation and figure out the best starting point together.

Do you accept insurance? +

I'm an out-of-network provider. I provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement — see the Practical Information page for the full process.

Do you offer virtual sessions? +

Yes. Virtual and in-person sessions are both available, and many clients move between the two depending on their week.

How long does therapy typically take? +

It depends on what you're working on. Some people come for a few months around a specific issue; others stay longer for deeper, ongoing work. We'll check in on progress regularly.

What happens in a first session? +

We'll talk through what brought you in, your history, and what you're hoping for — and start shaping a plan for our work together.

Is what I share confidential? +

Yes, with the standard legal and ethical exceptions I'll review with you in our first session.
